DIY Eye Mask Tutorial
Hi Friends! Today I want to show you how to make these fun and simple eye masks. If you have been following along with me on Instagram, you'll know that I have been rounding up some gift ideas to make and give away using fabrics scraps. I'm calling it Gift Your Scraps Away This Holiday #giftyourscrapsawaythisholiday These eye masks take very little material, but make great gifts!
Here is what you need to get started:
*Some Fabric Scraps
*1/4" Elastic
Instructions:
Print out the free eye mask template and cut it out. Trace and cut out 2 pieces of fabric using the template. Cut a scrap of fabric 1.5"x 24" for the elastic casing. Now cut out a piece of 1/4" elastic 12" long.
Fold the casing in half lengthwise with right sides together and sew along the long edge using 1/4" seam allowance. Turn casing right side out. Using a safety pin, feed the elastic through the casing. Make sure you pin the elastic to the casing so it doesn't pull through. When the elastic has reached the other side, sew both edges of the elastic/casing so the elastic stays put.
Now using the marks included on the template, line up one side of the elastic to the mark on your cut out eye mask fabric. Line up the other side of the elastic to the opposite mark and pin in place. Lay the other eye mask fabric on top of the other with ride sides facing. Pin in place.
Sew around the perimeter of the eye mask using a 3/8" seam allowance. Leave an opening for turning and make sure to backstitch at the beginning and end, and go over the elastic a few times to make sure it stays in place.
Once sewn, turn the eye mask right side out and push all of the edges out so you have a nice clean edge. Fold the opening seam allowance to the inside and stitch the opening closed.
There you have it! Enjoy this quick and easy project!
