Burda Patterns 08/2012 Peter Pan Blouse #154 and Suspender Skirt #156
I let my 11 year old pick out the pattern and fabric for her Easter Dress this year. We searched around a few different sites, but always come back to Burda for some reason. I think it's because their designs are so cute, and well photographed, and have cute fabric choices in their examples. Sometimes with the big 4 pattern companies, it's hard to catch the vision of what it would look from the line drawings, or what it would look like in a different fabric.
Luckily, with these two patterns, both were pretty easy to understand. Sometimes Burda patterns can be a bit of a puzzle trying to understand what they mean.
We found the fabric at Hobby Lobby. The shirt is a floral cotton, and the skirt is a sturdier striped twill. We went with a sturdier fabric here, so that the skirt would keep it's flared out shape. She picked out some cute buttons and gold piping to go along with everything, and I think she did a great job at picking things out!
The Suspender Skirt (08/2012 #156) was so simple it didn't even have pattern pieces, except for the pocket. It just listed some measurements of rectangles to cut out for the main skirt pieces and the suspender pieces.
We added the gold piping in under the waistband, and added a few inches to the length of the skirt, but other than that, we kept everything the same.
For the Peter Pan Blouse, (08/2012 #154) we added a few inches of length, shortened the sleeves, and added the same gold piping to the button placket. If I were to make this again, I think I would add even more length to the bottom of this shirt. When she wore it with the skirt it kept coming untucked, but other than that, I think it is a nice design.
Overall, this turned out to be a super cute and easy outfit for a tween!
