Yuzu Raglan Coat by Waffle Patterns

Ok guys, this was my first time sewing a coat! I think I picked a good pattern for my first coat, because the Yuzu Raglan Coat by Waffle Patterns had tons of clear illustrations and directions to follow. She actually has a number of amazing coat patterns on her site, I had a hard time choosing which one to try. I ultimately chose the Yuzu because I loved the high neck, but the Tosti and the Pepernoot and the Bamboo patterns were a close second.

I didn't have any problems with the construction of this coat, except the welt pockets took a bit of time to get just right. I always have a bit of trouble with welt pockets for some reason. I guess I just need to sew more things with welt pockets to get it figured out! :)

This coat has options for welt pockets or patch pockets, so if you have problems with welt pockets, like me, I love that there is another option.

This coat is lined and has 10 buttons, 5 buttonholes and 2 hidden snaps. The hem and lining are hand stitched, which is a process I have come to really love. I save all of my hand stitching for night time when I am watching shows with my hubby.

I won the wool and lining fabric from a generous giveaway hosted by the lovely WinMichele and D&HFabrics. The wool is a grey/navy wool blend. It is lightweight and lofty. The lining fabric is a cupro powdered blue wonder, super soft and drapey. Both of these fabrics were fun to sew with because their textures were so nice to touch. :)

I'd say if you are an intermediate seamstress, the Yuzu coat pattern would be right up your alley! It's a fun and satisfying pattern!
