Sewing the York Pinafore by Helen's Closet
This pattern was exactly what I was looking for as I was planning for summer sewing. I found out about Helen's Closet through her Love to Sew Podcast. I love to listen to podcasts as I am cutting out and sewing patterns. In fact, I will do a blog post with some of my favorite podcasts I am listening to right now.
The fabric I used for this project was a striped linen-look from JoAnn's. It is perfect for summer because it nice and lightweight and breezy. Plus, it wrinkles, because it's linen-like, but it doesn't wrinkle as much as I thought it would.
The pattern was so simple and easy to understand. It uses uses a lot of bias tape to finish off the neck and armholes and the pockets. I ended up making my own bias tape from the same fabric, and I loved how it looked when I was sewing it on. I loved the look of it so much in fact, that I left the bias tape showing on the pockets, because I thought it added an interesting element to the edges.
The York is so quick and simple, but is also cute and fits really well. It would make a cute fall pinafore too, with some heavier weight fabric and maybe some tights underneath.
There are a lot of options to hack this pattern as well. Helen put a cute gathered waist hack on her blog that I think is so dang cute!
