Matching separates made to look like a jumpsuit

I am a new fan of separates! Don't get me wrong, I love me a good jumpsuit, but I recently saw a great idea by @themindfulsewist to make the Fringe Dress Pattern by Chalk and Notch as a top and pair it with McCall's #m7726 high waisted paper bag waist pants, which was a match made in separates heaven!

Even better, I had already made the pants before, so I went to JoAnn and got some matching fabric and got to work on the top. I used the Fringe Top pattern down to the waist and then blended it in with the bottom of pattern Simplicity #S8601 to make it a tie top for the times when I don't want to pair it with the pants.

I've paired it as a tie top with a Colette Zinnia Skirt here. This look is so nice and summery, I wish it wasn't actually about 35 degrees when we took these pictures. :) haha!

So some pros of separates:

1. You can broaden your wardrobe reach by expanding the possibilities of wearing the pieces together, or separately.

2. Separates make bathroom time a breeze, haha! Sometimes jumpsuits can prove tricky when it comes to the bathroom situation :)

3. There are so many creative possibilities with matching separates, you can do skirts and tops, shorts and tops, blazers and pants, etc etc etc

I am on the look out now for more pattern options that might match well together to make other winning separates combos!
